Journal “Medical Doctor and Information Technology” author guidelines
The “Medical Doctor and Information Technology” publishes peer reviewed, original papers which provide new insights into medical information technology (IT).
The editors of the “Medical Doctor and Information Technology” use in their work Committee on Publication Ethics guidelines (COPE) and draws on the experience of respected indexed international journal and publishers.
The editorial board bears full responsibility for compliance with the principles listed in these guidelines.
- General information
- The Journal accepts original and unpublished previously materials only. If identical texts of the same author are found in other print and electronic publications, the contract is terminated and the author is rejected in publication (all articles are submitted to a check in "Antiplagiat" system).
- Manuscripts submitted for publication must be relevant, have appropriate structure, and contain a statement of tasks (problems), a description of the methodology, main research results obtained by the author, and conclusions.
- Submitted manuscript should be prepared in accordance with guidelines listed below.
- All submitted manuscripts undergo peer-review process.
- Articles are submitted via electronic submission form. The uploaded file with a manuscript text should be in prepared in Microsoft Word (*.doc, *.docx, *.rtf).
- The following additional documents (in pdf, tiff or jpeg formats) should be submitted along with the manuscript (in pdf, tiff or jpeg format):
- Letter from the affiliated organization, drawn up on the letterhead of the organization and signed by the head / deputy head;
- Cover letter signed by all of the authors. Authors names, title and affiliation should be indicated.
- The editors reserve the right to edit and select material for publication.
- Manuscripts which are prepared not in accordance with the rules below will not be considered for a review.
- Manuscripts submitted to the journal are not returned to the authors.

Manuscript preparation
- The text volume should not exceed 15 pages for original article and 25 pages for a review (without reference list and abstract). The editors could accept articles exceeding that volume, if they decide that it is necessary to keep all the information in the text for the good-quality paper.
- The journal accepts manuscripts in Russian and English. For manuscripts in Russian additional English-language metadata is required (full names of the authors, the official name of the authors' organizations, the title of the article, abstract, keywords, data on the corresponding author). If the authors do not provide the article metadata in English or the language quality of the article is poor, the editorial board reserves the right to return the article to the author for revision.
- Only those who have made a significant contribution to the research, writing the manuscript, its revision, correction and approval of the final draft can be considered as the authors. Those who had less significant role in manuscript preparation (statisticians, translators, technical staff, etc.) should be mentioned in the "Acknowledgments" section.
- Authors guarantee that they have exclusive copyright for submitted manuscript and bears full financial and legal responsibility for the accuracy of its content.
- Text formatting:
- A4 sheet format;
- font TimesNewRoman, size 14;
- acceptable file format: .doc, .docx, .rtf;
- first-line indent 1,25 cm;
- line spacing 1,5;
- footnotes on the corresponding pages;
- continuous footnotes numeration;
- margins: top and bottom – 2.5 cm, left – 3.5 cm, right – 1.5 cm;
- measurement units should be reported in the metric system using the International System of Units (IS);
- acronyms should be used only if they are broadly recognized and absolutely essential;
- acronyms should be defined at the first mention (in the title, synopsis, abstract, text, etc.);
- Do not use underlining for highlighting the text. Only italics or bold font are allowed;
- all duplicate spaces and extra line breaks must be removed from the text.
- When mentioning drugs, the active substance (international non-proprietary name - INN), manufacturer, country of manufacture must be indicated; all names and dosages must be carefully checked
- A minimum sufficient amount of illustrated material (tables and figures) should support the main text. The editors reserve the right to reduce the amount of illustrative material in the article. The location of the illustration is indicated by the author in the text by citing a table or figure. Illustrative material is numbered in the order of mention (for example: Figure 1, Figure 2, etc., Table 1, Table 2, etc.).
- Tables should contain only the necessary data and represent statistically processed materials, be easy to read and understand, have a title, units of measurement for each type of measurements. The presence of statistical significance of data differences should be indicated. Tables are placed in the text of the article after the paragraph first mentioning the paragraph.
- Figures, diagrams and graphs must have axis caption indicating the units of measurement in the SI system. The legend should be separated from the figure. Figures with titles and captions are placed in the text of the article after the paragraph first mentioning the figure. Any elements added to figures by means of MS Word (arrows, captions) are not allowed.
- Photos, screenshots and other non-drawn illustrations should not only be inserted into the text of the manuscript, but also in separate files of * .jpeg, * .bmp, * .gif format. Image resolution must be> 300 dpi. Image files must be named according to the figure number in the text. Each such file is signed in accordance with the numbering of the figure in the text of the article (for example, Figure 1).
- If the manuscript contains figures previously published in other publications (even if their elements have been translated from a foreign language into Russian), the author must provide the editors with the permission of the copyright holder to publish this image in another journal (with the correct indication of the corresponding journal), otherwise it will be considered plagiarism.

Manuscript structure
- Original article should have the following sections: a title page with information about the authors (including the author's ORCID IDs), the title of the article, keywords and a summary of the article in Russian and English. The main text of the article consists of the standard sections: introduction; material and methods; results; discussion; conclusions, list of references. “Results” and “discussion” sections should be listed separately.
- Review articles are formatted the same as the original articles. Review articles should be prepared in accordance with international guidelines for systematic literature search methods and standards (PRISMA-S, PRISMA 2020 etc.). Abstracts of review articles should contain information on methods of literature search in Scopus, Web of Science, MedLine, The Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Global Health, CyberLeninka, RSCI and others. The bibliography should contain publications not older than the past 5 years (in addition to the fundamental works), primarily articles from journals, links to highly cited sources, including from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. Links must be verifiable.
- EQUATOR Network Guidelines for reporting research results are strongly recommended for reporting your results in the article. TRIPOD checklist should be used for studies developing, validating, or updating a prediction model. STARD guidelines are suggested for reporting diagnostic accuracy studies. PRISMA checklist should be used for systematic reviews.
- Find the Template of the Title page and stick with it (Template).
- Abstract should list the main findings of the article. Abstracts of original articles should contain: aim, materials and methods, results, conclusion. Abstract should not exceed 250 words.
- Following the Abstract, supply a list of 3-6 key words or phrases. Abstract and key words should be given in both Russian and English (using pubmed MeSH, if applicable).
- Each figure should have a title and a description of all abbreviations. Axes plots with units of measurement should be provided for each graph. The captions to the photomicrographs should mention the staining method and magnification.
- The tables should be numbered in Arabic numerals at the top right, and the title is given below. The abbreviations from tables must be explained either in the text preceding the footnote to the table, or right under the table.
- Formulas should be typed only in Microsoft Equation 3.0 or MathType and adhere to the same style throughout the document. Formulas that do not require special mathematical symbols should be typed directly using MS Word
- References.
The Journal uses the Vancouver style (Vancouver): references should be arranged in the order in which the references appear in the text (not alphabetically). Bibliographic references in the text are placed in square brackets. References to Russian-language sources should be duplicated in the Latin alphabet. Thus:- English-language references should be formatted in Vancouver in the AMA version (AMA style, http://www.amamanualofstyle.com).
- Russian-language references should be formatted in accordance with GOST 7.0.5-2008; the duplicate in Latin alphabet should follow the Russian-language references and is placed in square brackets (for more details, see the Guide for reference formatting).
Digital Object Identifier (DOI) should be provided for each reference if it has one. You can check the doi using http://search.crossref.org/ or https://www.citethisforme.com.
PhD thesis and thesis synopsis are undesirable references for any type of the submitted manuscript.References formatting examples are presented in the Guide for reference formatting.
- Additional Information
- Manuscripts that do not meet the above requirements, with multiple grammatical and syntax errors, will not be considered for publishing and will not be returned to the authors.
- Authors should submit only original works. When using textual or graphic information from the work of others, references to the corresponding publications or the written permission from the author are required. Any kind of plagiarism is considered unethical behavior and is unacceptable. Use of text borrowing without references and appropriation of research results that do not belong to the authors are prohibited.
- Articles already published or submitted to the other journals cannot be submitted for publication.
- Disclosures and Conflicts of Interest
All authors are required to disclose any financial and other significant conflicts of interest that may affect the research results or their interpretation. All sources of financial support for the project must be disclosed. Any situation that can affect the author of the manuscript and lead to concealment, data distortion can be considered a conflict of interest. The presence of a conflict of interest for one or more authors is not a reason for refusing to publish an article. The concealment of potential and obvious conflicts of interest on the part of the authors revealed by the editors may be a reason to refuse to publish an article.
Examples of potential conflicts of interest to disclose:
- receiving financial rewards for participating in research or writing a manuscript;
- any connection (contract work, consulting, shareholdings, receiving fees, providing expert opinions) with organizations that have a direct interest in the subject of research or review;
- patent or patent application covering research results;
- financial support for any of the stages of research or writing a manuscript (including grants and other financial support)
Existing and potential conflicts of interest should be disclosed as early as possible. Information on conflicts of interest received from the authors of the manuscripts is not provided to the reviewers and is available only to the editorial board when deciding on the publication of the manuscript. Also, information on conflicts of interest is published as part of the full text of the article
- Research and publication funding
In cases when the research and / or drafting the manuscript had financial support, the source of funding should be clearly stated. The absence of financial support should be stated as well. This information should be presented after the text of the article in the "Funding" section.
- The editors reserve the right to request the original (raw) data of the study, if any are requested by the reviewer
- Major errors in published articles
If the author discovers significant errors or inaccuracies in his published work, he must immediately notify the editor of the journal and communicate with him in order to promptly withdraw the publication and correct errors. If an editor or publisher has received information from a third party that a published work contains major errors, the author must immediately retract the work or correct the errors as soon as possible.
